Understanding Autism
for Managers

This training course will give you a better understanding of autism (including Asperger syndrome) and increase your confidence in your ability to effectively manage your employee with autism.

Through group exercises and materials you will learn more about autism as well as the right phrases and terminology. You will have an opportunity to meet other managers of workers with autism and to discuss the different ways in which autism can affect someone in the workplace. The training will identify management strategies that can help prevent or address any issues in the workplace.

Key aims
This course will give you the opportunity to:

Increase your understanding of autism and its impact on someone in the workplace

Discuss current issues or concerns relating to your employee with autism

Increase your confidence in managing your employee with autism

Learn how to formulate and implement appropriate management strategies

Clarify the concept of reasonable adjustments and the Equality Act 2010.


Undertanding Dyslexia for Managers

Understanding dyslexia for Managers a Dyslexia Awareness workshop (half day or full day) can be offered at your site: it covers the following key areas:

• Dyslexia and Dyspraxia
• How these ' hidden ' disabilities can affect staff and work performance
• How to develop a best practice approach to working with colleagues with dyslexia or dyspraxia.

Topics covered include:
• The legal framework, including the Equality Act and Data Protection Act
• How changes in the work environment particularly affect staff with neuro-diverse disorders
• How dyslexia and dyspraxia affect efficiency at work
• Identification and assessment
• Interference and adaptation at different levels: individual, team and institutional
• Reasonable adjustments at different stages of employment life cycle: recruitment, staff development evaluation, promotion
• IT solutions and support and access to work funding
